- I am taking a weekly Lateral Flow Test to ensure that I am safe to treat patients. If I test positive, I will isolate and follow up with a PCR test. I will be in touch to rearrange any appointments that will need to be cancelled.
- Last week, I was happy to be called up by my GP surgery to be offered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which I received on Friday 8th Jan..
- With this more stringent lockdown, I am advising that only my CFS patients and those patients whose symptoms would worsen if treatment plans halted, book in for now. This allows greater gaps between appointments slots and reduces the risk of transmission.
- During this time, I will unfortunately not be taking on any new patients.
“OSTEOPATHY IS A SEARCH FOR COMMUNICATION AND CO-OPERATION WITH THE NATURAL LAWS OF HEALING"
WHAT CAN OSTEOPATHY DO FOR YOU?
Osteopaths are commonly known for treating back and neck pain; but we do so much more!
I love looking at problems caused by:
the demands placed on your body during pregnancy.
adopting habitual patterns while, for example, driving, working at a desk, or relaxing on your sofa with an iPad.
overstraining when doing something you are unaccustomed to doing like moving a piece of heavy furniture, reaching awkwardly into a cupboard or tripping off a kerb.
arthritis, headaches arising from tension in the neck and shoulders, or minor sports injuries.
the complexities of chronic pain
Demands on your time with the pressure of juggling career, home, finances, friends and family, can sometimes make it difficult to concentrate on your own health. When the body starts forcing us to slow down that's when we generally begin to focus on ourselves. That's definitely when you should consider seeing an osteopath, if not before!
Osteopathy supports optimal health and I can provide health guidance, manual therapy and exercise advice all tailored to your individual needs. I use a wide variety of gentle hands-on techniques that focus on releasing tension, improving mobility and optimising function.
I assess, diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of health problems and am also trained to check for signs of serious conditions that I cannot treat and will work with or refer you to other healthcare professionals as needed to ensure you receive the best possible care.
I take the time to understand each patient – your unique combination of symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. This helps to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your issue and formulate a treatment plan with you that will achieve the best outcome.
MY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
Following a desk based career in business and risk management in London and in Tokyo, I was introduced to osteopathy after the birth of my son in 2006 when I received treatment and discovered its efficacy and long lasting benefits myself.
Finding out more led to a complete career change and many years of study at the British School of Osteopathy, the UK's oldest and most prestigious osteopathic school (now the UCO), gaining a Masters in Osteopathy, a Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Osteopathy and becoming registered with The General Osteopathic Council
In pursuit of my interest in treating Chronic Fatigue my London practice, Harper Road Osteopaths, now specialises in the osteopathic treatment of ME/CFS. I trained in the Perrin Technique with Dr Raymond Perrin and started using his approach in 2014, and became an advanced practitioner in 2019. I now assist Dr Perrin in the practical elements of his London based courses.
I have studied and practice in the field of cranial osteopathy and became a Member of the Sutherland College of Cranial Osteopathy in 2019.
As part of my commitment to pursuing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) I have undertaken studies in cranial osteopathy, chronic pain (one of the few practitioners trained in OsteoMap - a technique involving ACT, Mindfulness and Osteopathy), women's health, medical acupuncture, Pilates matwork and kinesio-taping and I regularly use a variety of techniques within any one treatment.
I divide my week between my own small practice, Harper Road Osteopaths in Borough in London, and at The Manor Clinic in Sevenoaks. The rest of the time finds me running around after my extremely sporty teenage son.
I set up and ran Cloud Active Therapies in Waterloo in 2011 which became Union City Therapies when we moved to Elephant and Castle in London in 2014. I then renamed the practice Harper Road Osteopaths in 2019 when we moved to Borough. I now work there with co-owner Lorna Rose, another osteopath and good friend.
Whilst waiting for the London practice to become busy in it's early days I started working at The Manor Clinic in Sevenoaks in 2015 to provide maternity cover for an old clinic tutor of mine. You can still find me there 2 days a week as, although the London practice did become busy, I love the change of environment and the different faces!
